Tips for Completing the B.S.
Degree
- Before taking upper-division courses in your general
education, liberal studies, or your major, it is important
for you to complete your required writing courses to enhance
your writing skills. Many upper-division courses are writing-intensive.
- College algebra is an important prerequisite for many
College of Management foundation courses. Take your math
assessment, if required, to find out if you are prepared
for college algebra, or if you need a preparatory course.
Currently, Metropolitan State offers college algebra
as an independent study course. However, the independent
study course is only recommended to students who are
highly disciplined, organized, and have strong math
skills. You may take an online college algebra course
or prerequisites through a Partner Institution or an
other college that offers college algebra.
- All courses taken at a community college are considered
lower-division, even if the equivalent courses are considered
upper-division at Metropolitan State. You must have at
least 41 upper-division credits for the B.S. degree. If
you take all lower-division general education courses
and all the major courses that are offered at a community
college, you may not have enough upper-divison credits
to graduate. Please be careful when choosing where to
take courses and make certain you have completed at least
41 upper-division credits at Metropolitan State.
- You do not need to complete all of your general education
and liberal studies (GELS) requirements before you start
taking courses in your major. In fact, it is helpful to
save some GELS courses to take later in your major. You
can then use GELS courses to fill out your course load
during semesters when your major courses are not offered
online.
- Refer to the marketing
course sequence for a list of specific courses you may use
for your marketing electives. You can choose electives
for your business administration or management major from
several areas in the College of Management. Choose elective
courses in areas that interest you or in areas where you
would like to focus. Here is a list of areas to choose
from for your electives.
Accounting (Acct)
Business Law (BLaw)
Decision Sciences (DSci)
Economics (Econ)
Finance (Fin)
Human Resource Management (HRM)
International Business (IBus)
Management (Mgmt)
Management Information Systems (MIS)
Marketing (Mktg)
Nonprofit Management (NpM)
Philosophy 320 only: Business Ethics (Phil)
Public Administration (PAdm)
Only a limited number of courses are available online.
- Plan to take Mgmt 499: Case Studies in Strategic Management
during your last semester. This capstone course requires
that you apply knowledge gained from previous course work.
