| Both the A.S. degree
in Business and the B.S. degree with a major in Business
Administration, Marketing, and Management are general business
programs designed to provide students with the skills and
knowledge of business that can prepare them for positions
in a variety of business settings. Taken alone or together,
these degrees can open doors to new career possibilities
in small business and corporate settings.
The A.S. in Business from the partner institutions is designed
for possible employment at the associate degree level and
for transfer to a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing,
or management. A student who completes only the A.S. degree
will be prepared for a variety of entry-level careers in
business. The A.S. can also position you very well to complete
a B.S. degree. Completing this program with the recommended
courses that satisfy the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum will
satisfy both the General Education requirements for any
Metropolitan State University bachelor’s degree, and
also satisfy the foundation and some of the business core
requirements for the Business Administration, Management,
and Marketing majors. For more details regarding an A.S.
in Business contact a partner
institution.
Many positions in business, especially at the supervisory and management
level, require a bachelor’s degree. A degree in Business Administration,
Management, or Marketing can provide you with the background for
a wide variety of positions in business. Through the required courses,
you will develop the skills and background knowledge needed for
a wide variety of business areas, and learn the fundamentals of
the various functional areas of business, including management,
finance, and management information systems. You can expect to acquire
the organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills
necessary for anyone accepting management responsibilities. The
Business Administration major is the most general and flexible major
offered by the College of Management, enabling you to tailor the
program to your interests by selecting major elective courses from
any subject taught by the College of Management.
Business Administration, Management, or Marketing graduates can
expect a dynamic and challenging career in ever-changing economic
and global conditions. A business degree will help you to prepare
for employment opportunities and for promotions. You will be prepared
for positions with titles such as “supervisor,” “department
manager,” and “agency director” in private businesses,
nonprofit organizations, and government.
