| Planning for graduation starts as
soon as you begin a degree program. Planning from the beginning
of your program for how you will complete your degree requirements
and starting to think about what comes after graduation
are keys to completing your degree on time and making a
smooth transition to your next step.
Follow these steps to be prepared for graduation:
- Learn about the requirements for your program and plan
for how you will complete them. Complete New
Student Orientation to be sure that you understand
your degree requirements.
- Plan your coursework to complete your requirements in
a time frame that meets your situation and needs. Work
with academic advisors when you have questions about your
plans and strategies. Make use of support services as
needed to complete your courses and Degree
Planning strategies to stay on track. Track your progress
as you complete your courses.
- Think about what you will do after graduation, long
before you expect to graduate. Whether you plan to enter
the job market or go to graduate school, these are important
steps for you to take for planning your future. Your plans
might affect your course choice, whether you do an internship,
or even your choice of major. Career Services can help
you explore your interests, define your goals, and prepare
you for success. If you are planning to enter the job
market, use the Career Services at a
partner institution (if you are completing an Associates
degree) or Metropolitan
State University (if you are completing a B.S. degree)
for assistance. Don’t wait until the term you plan
to graduate!
- Check in with your advisor at least two terms before
you plan to graduate to make sure you are on track and
have a plan for completing your remaining requirements.
If you have missed a requirement, make sure you have time
to complete it without delaying your graduation.
- Apply for graduation by the published deadlines in
order to receive your degree when you complete your coursework.
This will also help you find out what arrangements you
need to make to attend the commencement ceremony.
