Short Biography:

Dr. Prestwich joined the resident faculty of the College of Management in January, 2001. He is Curriculum Coordinator of International Business, and Director of the COM's International Business Programs, with current linkages in Germany, Taiwan, and Sweden. He teaches courses on International Business (including on-line), International Political Economy, and Doing Business in Asia.

Previously, he was adjunct faculty for the University of St. Thomas Graduate School of Business MIM program, 1991-2001, and Community Faculty for Metropolitan State University College of Management, 1989-1995 .

Prestwich was Director of the World Trade Conference Center in St. Paul from September 1999 to January 2001, managing operations, membership and education programs, and Director of the Minnesota Trade Office’s (MTO) education program and international library from 1988 to 2001. In the latter role, he was responsible for the development and statewide delivery of the MTO’s export training seminars, including the writing of an export training manual, for businesses interested in international market opportunities. Previously, he was research associate for the Regional Issues Forum at Spring Hill Center, Wayzata, focusing on capital access problems of start up businesses in rural Minnesota and on state economic development plans and policies. He has also been a consultant to local companies on international business strategic planning, market entry, and cross-cultural issues for more than ten years.

In 1999, he was awarded World Trade Week, Inc.’s Special Service Award by Governor Ventura for his “outstanding contribution to international trade in Minnesota.”

Prior to coming to the United States in 1988, Prestwich spent 17 Years as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Economic and Industrial Geography at Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge, England. He led field courses in England, the Netherlands and France for more than ten years. He has published a number of articles on trade issues, economic development, and industrial location, and has co-authored a book on the political economy of regional and urban development.

Prestwich is currently Chair of the British-American Business Council of Minnesota, and of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Committee on Foreign Relations; a Board member of the Minnesota International Center, and of the Midwest Global Trade Association, and a member of the Academy of International Business.

He has traveled extensively in Europe and North America, has been an adviser to Samara Oblast in Russia, has taught courses in Taiwan, and is currently negotiating new joint degree programs between Metropolitan State University and universities in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Poland.
