What does it cost to earn
my degree through Business Online?
Less than you might think! Compared to other well-known accredited
degree programs, the Business Online degrees are highly affordable.
Plus, you might qualify for financial aid. For details, visit Tuition
and Financial Aid.
Metropolitan State and its partner institutions set their own tuition
and fees based on policy established by the Board of the Minnesota
Colleges and Universities. As a result, costs vary within Business
Online, depending on where you are taking your courses.
Why is tuition so much
lower in Business Online than in many other online programs?
Metropolitan State University and its partner institutions are
public institutions and so are supported, in part, by state tax
dollars. Our mission is to provide quality educational opportunities
at affordable rates. Thus, we keep tuition and fees as low as possible,
raising those costs only when necessary to operate within sound
fiscal parameters.
What are tuition and
fees at Metropolitan State?
Online tuition applies to all online courses at Metropolitan State.
It is the same rate for all students, regardless of their residency
status. Funds generated by the somewhat-higher online tuition rate
are used to expand online course offerings and support services
for online students.
For the current online tuition and fees visit Tuition and Financial Aid.
Business Online is still a great value!
What are tuition and
fees at the partner institutions?
Each partner institution sets
its own tuition and fees.
Doesn’t it cost
less to offer a course online? Why does Metropolitan State charge
more for online courses?
While many assume that an online course costs less than
a classroom course, the reality is that the costs are somewhat
higher. There are savings, of course, in that an online
course does not require a classroom, chairs and tables,
and heat or lighting. These relatively small savings are
more than offset, however, by increased costs in training
instructors how to teach online and supporting them as they
develop online courses. The behind-the-scenes support required
for online students continues to require a great deal of
development and this development has been very expensive
also.
In a time of state budget problems, more of the cost of higher
education is being shifted by the state to students through reduced
state subsidy. Thus, tuition is rising.
Can I qualify for financial
aid as an online student?
Yes—depending upon many factors, including your financial
circumstances and the number of credits you are taking.
Financial aid is available to Business Online students as
long as they otherwise qualify. More information is available
at Tuition and Financial Aid.
