I’m already a student at Metropolitan State. Why do I have to take the diagnostic assessments now?

Business Online students are required to be better prepared because the online environment requires stronger skills for you to be successful. The assessments give you and your advisor necessary information for choosing appropriate courses and planning a course sequence that is in your best interest.

The GELS worksheet and other orientation information that you received when you first became a Metropolitan State student state that assessments are required. However, for classroom students, this policy wasn't always enforced. Some students ignored it without repercussion, except, perhaps, being unprepared for some of their courses. Within the next year, Metropolitan State will have a system to track and enforce the assessment policy so that all students will need to comply.

As a Business Online student, you need to complete your assessment prior to registering for your second term.

Is the Online Orientation really necessary?
You may ask yourself this question, especially if you are already a Metropolitan State student. The answer is, “Yes!” Being an online student involves some different processes and some different skills. Business Online orientation will familiarize you with those differences and reinforce your knowledge of yet other areas. For new students, Business Online orientation will help you become acquainted with major requirements, policies, and processes that will support your success as an online student.

Because we think the online orientation is so important, we will place a hold on your registration until you have successfully completed the orientation worksheet or quiz. Don’t worry, though. If you get a question wrong on the worksheet, you will be guided to the specific bit of knowledge you need to answer that question correctly the next time. We want you to get every answer correct because that means you know the essentials of being a successful Business Online student.
