Many students think online courses are easier--they're
not. Before taking an online course, you want to ask yourself:
-
Am I an independent learner who does not need the classroom
structure to succeed?
-
Am I able to complete homework and other assignments
on time, without reminders?
-
Do I have good reading and writing skills?
-
Do I have a history of successfully completing my courses?
-
Do I have the ability and commitment to use updated
virus scanning software for files I send and receive?
- Do I have an e-mail account, Internet access, software
and hardware to take an online course? (Technology
requirements are defined on the Technology Support
page under the Current Students menu.)
Taking an online course does not mean you can go on vacation
for the semester. If you did not answer “Yes”
to all the above questions, you should further evaluate
if the online format fits your learning style. The MinnesotaOnline
Web site has another self-assesment tool that you might
want to use. In addition, you are encouraged to sample
an online course.
