Purpose of Orientation

The purpose of orientation is to acclimate you to the university’s policies, procedures, plan your program and help you make good choices toward attaining your academic goals at Metropolitan State University. The good news is completing the Business Online Orientation meets the mandatory orientation and program information meeting (PIM) requirements at Metropolitan State. To help you get off to a good start, the following is an overview of the action items you will want to complete within your first semester.

  1. Activate your NetDirect Account enables you to access the Business Online Orientation Quiz, as well as online courses, network storage, email and more.
  2. Complete your assessments (if applicable) indicated either on the back of your General Education/Liberal Studies/Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) Worksheet or DARS report, which will lift your assessment hold and allow you to register for courses.
  3. Pass the quiz by mastering the material contained in this web site so you can continue to register for courses your second term.
  4. Choose and declare a major so we can start planning your academic program to determine what requirements have been met, and what requirements still need to be met.
  5. Register for the right course(s) depends on your particular circumstances.
  6. Pay for your course(s) by or before the tuition deadline.
  7. Purchase the appropriate textbook(s) and be ready to start class.

Getting off to a good start is an investment into your future. If you have attended the on-campus New Student Orientation, this will be honored as completing the quiz. However, you will find useful information pertinent to your online program, especially in the section called Degree Requirements located in Planning Your First Semester.
