Advantages of academic advising

Making use of academic advising will help you make informed decisions, feel confident about your plans, make the most of your education, and complete your degree as efficiently as possible. The Online Advising Center provides you with a lot of the information you need to succeed in your program, as well as the personal assistance you need to sort out the information and what it means to you.

The Online Advising Center makes information, tools, and tips for your academic planning available online, when you need them. Sometimes, however, you may prefer to have individual contact with a professional advisor to sort out your situation and questions. Trained professional advisors who are thoroughly familiar with the online business programs are available through email or by phone to answer your questions and address your individual situation.

How to work with your advisor

An effective advising relationship is a partnership between you and your advisor. Both advisors and students have responsibilities in this relationship. For more on what you can expect from your advisor, and what your advisor will expect from you, review how to work with your advisor.

Advising at Metropolitan State University and partner institutions

The Business Online degree is a partnership between Metropolitan State and partner institutions. Advisors at each college are specially trained to work with online degree students. In general, if you are working on the A.S. through a partner institution, you should contact a partner institution advisor. If you are working on the B.S. from Metropolitan State, contact a Metropolitan State University advisor, even if you are taking courses at the other partner institution.

Advisors will assist you with course planning, evaluation of transfer coursework, and will eventually review your coursework and determine when you are ready to graduate. Although advisors work with a large number of students, advisors will do their best to respond to your questions within two business days.

Please note that advisors are especially busy right before and during the registration period. For the quickest response from an advisor, contact your advisor early in the semester--don’t wait until registration begins. Before contacting an advisor, read the academic advising section of the Business Online Web site. For more information about advising at each college, visit
